Welcome to the World of Nokia 2690!
Reviews
Since its release in March 2010, the Nokia 2690 has proved to be a very popular mobile device for the lay audience. The reason for its success doesn’t lie in its numerous features, cheap price or range of colors, but instead lies in the name. Nokia 2690 is a curious name, why did they choose this name? Some of you may have noticed the two inner numbers are 6 and 9, which together make 69. Research has found that sex sells, and why would Nokia be any exception in exploiting this. Anyway this is all beside the point. Point being, Nokia is dying, and they are going to extreme lengths to try and save their company. They have recently hired Jerri DeVard to try and save the marketing side of things. But all the marketing in the world will not be able to disguise the hideous devices that have been coming from the Nokia labs recently. When Stephen Elop replaced Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo as CEO, I felt the company crumbling.
I have personally been a Nokia user most of my life, but when it came to the point in my life where I had to choose between the new trendy iPhones and keeping my faithful relationship with Nokia, I mistakenly chose Nokia. The N97 I bought was hopeless, performed nothing like it was advertised. When they said multitasking, I never thought that meant pulling the battery out on a regular basis.
What could fix Nokia now? Firstly, if they get rid of the cancer they have attached themselves to, which is Symbian. Symbian is the most horrible OS for “smart phones” (probably more correct to call them “slow underdeveloped chunder phones”). It is not only frustrating to use but also somewhat impossible to create anything with Symbian, so it is not hard to see why most developers steer clear of this OS. Nokia, get rid of the cancer and join Andriod or Windows 7. Secondly, start designing phones that are not at the left side of the innovative design bellcurve. 1.8 inch screen wont cut it nowadays, and in the future, releasing a Nokia 696969 is not going to help you.
But perhaps this is not the end of Nokia. Some hope may lie with the new Stephen Elop. I think the N8 is a step in the right direction. Nokia seem to be constructing a business model, increasing the diversity and demographic users of their phones, something lacking with other phone companies. For this I will maintain my relationship with Nokia and acknowledge that what keeps Nokia a great company is their persistence and ubiquitous nature.
